$25,000 to Transforming Action through
Power (with fiscal sponsorship
by St. Adalbert's Parish) to develop parent leadership and build
greater involvement in area schools. TAP will train parents to
become advocates for their children both at home and in their
schools. TAP is comprised of thirteen faith-based and multi-racial
member institutions united by a desire to act on common values
in public life, particularly concerning education. Increasing
parental involvement opens the door for unique partnerships that
strengthen our schools and our community.
$20,185 to Grace Community Center to continue
and expand the South Bend Police Department Boxing Program. The
target population is youth between the ages of 10-18 and is open
for boys and girls and every ethnic group. The expected outcome
of this project is to provide activities which are aimed at improving
interactive, social, and behaviors skills of the youth in the South
Bend community by providing for them the platform to become successful
in all walks of life therefore, improving the communities in which
they live. Last year 70 youth between the ages of 10-18 participated
in the program.
$20,000 to Near Northwest Neighborhood for Phase
II of the Lindsey Street Revitalization Project, which will revitalize
the 500-900 blocks of Lindsey Street.
$15,000.00 to Family Justice Center of St.
Joseph County for
the Protective Order Project (POP) which will provide the necessary
legal expertise, and offer access to counseling, medical, and chaplaincy
services all at one site. Over 600 women, and their children, need
orders of protection in St. Joseph County every year. To fully
escape abuse, they need legal representation and advice to successfully
obtain the orders and all the protection allowed by statute, and
supportive services to counter the traumatic effects of violence.
$7,046.00 to Corvilla to complete
the rehab of the Bulla Home. The remaining bathroom at Bulla Home
will be remodeled to provide easy and safe access for 8 women clients
with a variety of development disabilities living there.
$5,000.00 to Food Bank of Northern Indiana to
replace an obsolete DOS driven inventory/distribution system with
an online operations/software program. The project also includes
upgrades and computer replacements and funds have already been
committed by other foundations. More than 100 social service agencies
in St. Joseph County are served by the Food Bank and will benefit
from this project. These agencies provide food and shelter for
nearly 50,000 individuals.
