2007 ArtsEverywhere Grant Highlights

$5,000 to the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association for an assessment of the organization and competition by a national consultant. In order to maintain its unique national position, Fischoff’s goal is to gain better national recognition and support.

$5,000 to South Bend Heritage Foundation for the Colfax Campus Gallery’s upcoming exhibition season. These 6 shows will feature local artists, minority artists, and regional artists with a vision of justice.

$5,000 to the South Bend Regional Museum of Art to present two exhibitions of The American Series. This series is comprised of diverse exhibitions of work from the strongest movements and period in the history of American art. From October 2008 through January 2009 the museum will present "Guild Hall: An Adventure in the Arts", and "The American Scene: Sunday Painting from the Pre-Modern Era."

$5,000 to the South Bend Chamber Singers for their 2007-2008 season. Performances include a traditional Christmas concert that includes contemporary work; the second includes collaborations with Irish band Kennedy's Kitchen and the Culver Acadamy Choir; and the third is a bienniel collaboration with Fort Wayne's Heartland Chamber Chorale.

$5,000 to the South Bend Symphony Orchestra Association to support the Masterworks 5 Concert as the orchestra celebrates its 75th anniversary. The selections for the Masterwork 5 concert in April 2008 will provide music composed during the past century with universal themes ranging from joy and laughter to the challenges and pain of war. The concert requires a large orchestra, soloist and a large chorus.

$5,000 to The Children's Campus for a partnership with South Bend Civic Theatre to provide children with severe emotional and behavioral challenges the opportunity to participate in dramatic workshops. Participants will write, direct and produce an original play that will be staged at South Bend Civic Theatre.

$150,000, payable $50,000 a year over three years to WNIT Public Television for its campaign to renovate and relocate to its new broadcast facility in downtown South Bend. The space will enable WNIT to bring new and emerging media services to our region, develop stronger partnerships, deliver expanded cultural and educational content and enhance the acclaimed work of local arts organizations.

$150,000, payable $50,000 a year over three years to take advantage of a special opportunity for partnership with the Rotary Club of South Bend. Rotary is in the early planning stages of a project to renovate or replace the band shell at Potawatomi Park. This project is especially exciting because it is being pursued in the context of the major Access to Recreation grant the Foundation received earlier this year from the Kellogg Foundation.

$5,000 to Lifetime Education and Research Network, Inc. for South Bend:  A Fine Arts History project.  This project will provide a tool to enhance the understanding of the visual arts for students and the general public. The final product will be in two parts.  An expandable, internet compatible database, which will be shared with local institutions, of the local history of 2D and 3D fine arts; and a package containing a book and a DVD. The DVD will contain interviews, with illustrations, of individuals who have had an historical role in the fine arts of the South Bend area; the book, illustrated in color, will summarize the interviews and collected data.

$5,000 to WNIT Public TV - Michiana Public Broadcasting Corporation for an outreach and educational activity linked to the upcoming Ken Burns/PBS series "The War".  The station will create a 60-minute documentary for broadcast including interviews with  local veterans, spouses, POWs, Holocaust survivors and others to provide a first-hand, unique, local perspective on the impact World War II had on our family, friends and neighbors.  A DVD of the broadcast and other materials will be made available to educators and the general public. Community events will target veteran's groups, middle and high school students, civic organizations and the general public through screenings, discussions and personal appearances.

$5,000 to South Bend Regional Museum of Art for Midwestern Visions of Impressionism exhibition.  The show is being organized by the Massillon Museum (Ohio) and includes approximately 70 paintings highlighting artists born or raised in the Midwest who practiced impressionism from the 1890's to the 1920's. 

$5,000 to Vesper Chorale Incorporated for the High School Honor Choir Choral Experience involving three choirs from Clay High School.  The project provides an opportunity for an area high school choir(s) to rehearse and perform with a professional level adult choir.  This project will involve Vesper Chorale and three choirs from Clay High School in a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria on November 3, 2008.  The performance is open to the general public.  The expected outcome is to foster and promote local talent through a collaborative experience.

$5,000 to South Bend Regional Museum of Art for the Live the Arts! - Festival of Banners in celebration of its 60th anniversary.  The heart of  Live the Arts! - Festival of Banners will be original artwork created by community members, ages 8 to adult.  Entries chosen will reflect the wide diversity of community participants and be transferred to banners to be hung for display in Downtown South Bend.
