The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care - 2006 Winner
The Community Foundation named The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care the winner of the 7 th Annual Leighton Award for Nonprofit Excellence. The Leighton Award, the largest of its kind, brings with it a $100,000 endowment matching grant and a $10,000 unrestricted grant.
The Center for Hospice and Palliative received the major Leighton Award for providing outstanding care, compassion, and support to people facing the end-of-life, and to their loved ones.
"It is hard to meet someone who doesn’t express gratitude for the help he or she, or a friend or relative received from Hospice," said
Margaret King, chair of the Leighton Award selection committee.
Additional factors weighing in Hospice’s
favor were its excellent reputation, its outstanding corps of
dedicated volunteers, and its commitment to serve all people regardless
of their ability to pay.
