$60,000 to South Bend Heritage Foundation for physical
improvements at Robertson's Apartments, their senior housing facility
in downtown South Bend. Robertson's has ninety-two units of
senior housing for people 55 and above. For the physically
challenged, Robertson's has become a "destination of choice" due
to its downtown location, its proximity to medical services, and
the ease with which the disabled can travel both within Robertson's
and downtown.
$40,000 to Family & Children's Center Counseling & Development
Services for the operation and expansion of the Home Support
Program. Clients are referred by REAL Services and receive
assistance with homemaking needs such as cleaning, meal preparation,
laundry, and check writing. Attendant Care which includes
assistance with bathing, hygiene, and nutrition is also provided.
$30,000 to Alzheimer's Services of Northern Indiana to
provide scholarships for low-income seniors and their families for
Milton Adult Day Services. The day services program provides
therapeutic programming for adults who need support and supervision
during the day while their family members either work outside the
home or seek respite from caregiving responsibilities.
$30,000 to Health Visions Midwest for Faith in
Action Respite Care, to help expand the Program Consultant's position
from part-time to full-time. Faith in Action is a free, volunteer-driven,
respite care service for family caregivers. Trained volunteers
act as companions to homebound people for 2 to 4 hours a week to
allow caregivers time to run errands or have the opportunity for
a much needed break.
$15,000 to Healthwin Hospital for the creation
of an activity room for residents and families. The idea of
such a room came out of a recent survey done with residents focusing
on quality of life issues.
$50,000 to Visiting Nurse Service of New York for
the AdvantAge Initiative Survey for St. Joseph County. The AdvantAge
Survey is a national survey focusing on senior issues.
