$223,228 to REAL Services, Inc. for the Milton Consumer Directed Homemaker Pilot Program.  This program assists low-income seniors 60 years old and above to maintain, improve and safeguard their functioning at home.  Homemaker services offer direct and practical assistance consisting of household chores such as cleaning, cooking, laundry and related services.  This grant provides funding for 50 seniors at a time taken from REAL Service's waiting list (which is currently seven years long).  Seniors are able to hire their own homemaker and receive a maximum of three hours of service each week.  This program empowers older adults by increasing socialization which in turn enhances their mental and physical status.  In addition to providing help with cleaning and chores, homemaker assistance provides the first line of defense, enabling the elderly to remain in their homes longer.

$45,000 to South Bend Heritage Foundation for improved security measures at the Robertson's apartment building which include:  better lighting; an enhanced camera security system; and security personnel.

$30,000 to Alzheimer's Services of Northern Indiana for renovation of the Milton Adult Day Service Center in order to expand current therapeutic programming.

$15,000 to Healthwin Hospital to implement a restaurant style dining program in its facility.  Healthwin has piloted this program and found it to be successful on a number of levels.  Rather than serving meal trays in the rooms which traditionally has been the case, this program brings the residents to a large dining room and offers them a menu for meals served by attendants.

$50,000 to Family & Children's Center Counseling & Development Services, Inc. for Energy assistance for low income seniors.
